Intel has been one of the major factors in the computer industry for a very long time. For many years Intel really had no competition in their market. Since the onset of arch rival AMD the road to fame has been costly and a thorn in the side of the Intel giant that has never before seen any real threat to their complete market domination.

Intel never being one to slow down has fought back savagely in a price and MHz war that AMD is losing ground to daily. Even on a bad day though Intel still sells more processors worldwide than AMD can even touch but the lower end desktop market currently is very AMD friendly and that is where Intel needs to reach the people.

There are new boards coming out now from Intel that will support standard PC133 SDRAM on the P4 platform. This is a move which Intel hopes will boost sales in that somewhat dry market. I received from my contact at Intel, the D845WN motherboard which supports both the new Socket 478 P4 and PC133 SDRAM. At a glance it looks to be a promising board. Is this a little late in the game for the P4 platform and can Intel make a strong come back with the i845 chipset in the lower end market? Read on and see the whole review.
