The AMD 890GX platform has been a success for several reasons in that it has the first support without a BIOS update for 6 core CPUs. AMD CPUs have the benefit of being able to fit in older motherboards with the same Socket interface. The 890GX motherboard chipset also adds SATA 6 Gb/second natively to the motherboard chipset for the first time.
ASRock is a manufacturer of motherboards, video cards and other computer related equipment. They are best known for building motherboards with unique features not seen on other motherboards in the industry including PCIe and AGP on the same motherboard, add-on Socket 939 cards for Socket 754 motherboards and much more. Today ASRock has moved away from their gimmicky past and more into the mainstream with boards that are fully featured and high performing. The board on the review bench today is the ASRock 890GX Extreme3 board.
