The ASRock A330ION motherboard is based upon NVIDIA’s MCP7A-ION motherboard chipset. As all Intel Atom motherboards come with the CPU soldered into the motherboard that means that every A330ION motherboard will have a Dual Core Atom 330 CPU. This CPU is clocked at 1.66GHz and has a FSB of 533MHz.

The A330ION motherboard has a GeForce 9400M class graphics chip onboard in the MCP7A-ION chipset. The integrated graphics features 16 Shader Processors and full support for DirectX 10.0 including Pixel Shader 4.0 functionality. The GeForce 9400M has spread throughout NVIDIA’s integrated lineup for notebooks including the latest MacBook Pros from Apple.

One key feature of the ION platform is the ability to play back HD content from Blu-ray discs and HD-DVDs. As the Atom processor is designed mostly for Netbooks and Nettop computers the need for BD playback is limited on those systems. Many people are buying the Atom CPU with motherboard to build HTPCs which will likely have those types of devices. In this instance the Intel graphics is not sufficient without a lot of dropped frames while the 9400M graphics is.
