The new H55 chipset has much in common with the P55 chipset. Intel has moved the integrated graphics to the CPU instead of using the Southbridge as on earlier chipsets. The H55 chipset also has relegated control of the PCI Express lanes for graphics to the processor, meaning the DH55TC has 16 PCI Express lanes for external graphics if needed.

The Display Controller is on the H55 chipset. Note that means in this case the handling of the monitor as the CPU still needs to support external graphics. Intel calls this connection the Intel Flexible Display Interface. The Intel H55 handles the Clock Buffer, the I/O and the Display. The H55 supports up to six SATA ports and 14 USB 2.0 ports. The processor communicates to the H55 chipset via the DMI (Direct Memory Interface) which replaces the Front Side Bus on the G43 chipset.
