The Z8NA-D6C is a dual Socket 1366 motherboard. In fact, it is a rarity in the motherboard market supporting two LGA-1366 Xeon CPUs on an ATX form factor of 12” x 9.6”. Most dual Socket 1366 boards require a Server Form factor or Extended ATX form factor to use two CPUs. ASUS has several server boards including the Z8NA-D6 which has a SSI interface and the Z8NA-D6C which doesn’t.

The motherboard can take any of the Intel Xeon CPUs based on the LGA-1366 Socket. The highest end of these, the 5560 has a clock speed of 2.8GHz, has four cores, supports HyperThreading and for purposes of this review I tested the board with two of the 5504s clocked at 2.0GHz.

Server Power Supplies are a little bit different for most server computers as some of them have a SMBus Power connector in addition to the 24-pin and 8-pin power connectors. The motherboard requires a 450W PSU for power but any modern day computer will have that much as its power supply. The Z8NA-D6C is ideal for a server or a workstation with its PCI Express x16 Generation 2.0 slot. The board also has onboard graphics.

The onboard graphics is in the form of an Aspeed AST2050 Mainstream PCI Graphics and Remote Management Processor. The server computer does not need a big video card like the RADEON HD 5970 or the workstation equivalent to run as the computer would not do gaming or other such tasks. The AST2050 uses an ARM926EJ 200MHz processor with 16KB/16KB Cache. This processor has 8MB of 200MHz DDR-II RAM allowing a maximum of 1600x1200 resolutions.
