The main chipset in use on the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO is the 785G chipset. This is the latest motherboard chipset from AMD. The 785G supports all of the latest Phenom II/Athlon II/ Sempron 100 processors that are on the AM3 Socket. AM2+ processors will not work due to there being two pins missing on the Socket AM3 platform.

The motherboard supports up to DDR3 1800MHz memory, though the CPU only supports up to 1333MHz by default. Note that the memory controller is on the CPU, meaning that to get support for the higher memory speeds you need to overclock the CPU. Socket AM3 CPUs support Dual Channel memory which allows up to 16GB of DDR3 memory to be installed in a motherboard.

The key feature of the M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard is its onboard video chipset. The 785G chipset is the first integrated graphics chipset to support DirectX 10.1 on the graphics chip. ATI names their integrated solution the HD 4200 and it is an appropriate name as the feature set is the same as the HD 4xxx series. The 785g chipset supports SidePort Memory which is a 128MB chip on the board that acts as framebuffer memory before the motherboard have to use the onboard RAM.

The Energy Processing Unit is ASUSís trademarked name for their energy saving chip that automatically monitors the CPU, VGA card, HDDs, Chassis/CPU fans and sends power to them appropriate to the power loading. If you are using Word, or other low-CPU utilizing programs the EPU automatically sets the hardware to a low setting. As programs have higher loadings, the EPU sets the hardware to a higher setting. The board has an 8+2 Phase Power design that allows the motherboard to operate at higher frequencies.

ASUS includes three overclocking tools with their M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard: Turbo Key, TurboV, and GPU NOS. Turbo Key automatically overclocks the CPU with the touch of a button after setup. TurboV is an easy overclock tool that allows you to overclock without rebooting or exiting the OS. OCing the CPU is a few clicks away and there are profiles in TurboV that provides set overclocking profiles. GPU NOS automatically boosts performance for the most demanding tasks. This does not work in Hybrid CrossfireX mode.

The ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO uses 100% all high-quality conductive Polymer Capacitors with a 5000 hour lifespan@105C meaning in the worst situation. Normal operations will result in 500,000 hours@65C lifetime. ASUS also includes MyLogo2 which allows you to change the boot up start screen by changing the ASUS logo into a 256-color photograph from your archives. ASUS includes the Q-Connector, CrashFree BIOS 3 and EZ Flash to make it easy to use the motherboard.
