ASUS P7P55DX Deluxe Motherboard Review :: BIOS and Overclocking

ASUS uses their unique branding of American Megatrends’ AMIBIOS. The top menu is split into Main, AI Tweaker, Advanced, Power, Boot, and Tools. The Main Menu gives the System Date, Time Language, Storage Configuration and System Information. System Information gives the BIOS version, date and Intel CPU. It also gives the amount of memory on the board.

The Advanced Menu gives the CPU Ratio settings, the CPU Features settings including C1E, Virtualization Technology, SpeedStep, TurboMode and more. The Onboard Devices Configuration gives control over the HD Audio, the LAN, the eSATA controller, and the Front Panel Type. The majority of the Tweaking is done in the AI Tweaker menu.

Using ASUS’s TurboV EVO software I was able to overclock the Core i5 750 to 3.15GHz. While this may not seem like a high overclock considering Intel’s Turbo Boost allows the CPU to overclock to 3.2GHz, that is only under certain conditions and the 3.15GHz was totally stable during testing. Using manual overclocking I was able to obtain a overclock of 3.5GHz stable, which is almost 900MHz more than the default clock on air cooling a nice overclock.
