Every time we have a new CPU or chipset platform we change our test platform to meet the needs of the current tests. The 8800GTS 320MB video card we've used in previous platforms is now over 3 years old and the ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB is a good replacement for it, offering high performance at a reasonable price. The second consideration on an X58 chipset is triple memory channels. Due to the fact that the Intel X-25 SSD HDD does not hold enough space to run all the tests, I kept the 2 74GB WD Raptors as part of the test platform and retested the motherboard with the listed specs.

  • Intel Core i7 920 running at 2.67GHz
  • Kingston 3GB DDDR 3 KHX 16000 3GX Triple Channel

  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB video card running Catalyst 8.10
