The GeForce 8200 motherboard chipset is a single chip solution based upon NVIDIA’s MCP78 solution. This has the advantage of saving real estate on a motherboard as the Northbridge and Southbridge are combined into one chip. The key features of the new motherboard chipset include support for all AMD AM2+ or AM2 CPUs including the Phenom X4 9850+ CPU that is having trouble with AMD’s latest chipsets.
HybridPower is NVIDIA’s technology to turn off the discrete graphics card when idle or not doing demanding tasks like playing games. The 8200 is capable of HybridPower which when combined with a compatible GPU like the 9800GTX+ or GTX280 can save a lot of power compared to the normal use of the discrete graphics card (236W for the GTX280). HybridPower is supported by the GeForce 9800 GTX, 9800GTX+, GTX260, 9800GX2 and GTX280 cards.
Hybrid SLI allows the integrated graphics to work with a discrete graphics card to improve performance in games and applications. SLI was introduced by NVIDIA with the nForce4 SLI chipset a few years ago but until now required two discrete graphics cards. The 8200 allows the end-user to use an 8400GS or 8500GT card to increase performance by up to 40% over the integrated graphics alone. The application only works with the lower-end cards on NVIDIA’s lineup.
The XFX 8200 can use up to 256MB of memory for the Framebuffer on the integrated graphics according to XFX’s website. The 8200 has full DirectX 10 support and is capable of running games that require Pixel or Vertex Shader 4.0 to run. The GeForce 8200 integrated graphics has a 500MHz core clock, a 400MHz memory clock and a 1200MHz Shader clock. 4 pixel pipelines mean that the integrated graphics has a fillrate of about 2 Gigapixels a second.
