One decision that we had to make with the launch of the X38 chipset was what CPU to use. The P35 and other chipsets from Intel don’t support the new 1600MHz FSB CPUs, nor DDR3 memory, meaning that performance will differ between X38 and P35. We chose to use the QX9770 CPU with DDR3-1600 as our reference platform for DDR3 motherboards. With the limited number of X38 boards we’ve tested so far the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe is the top of the heap in every benchmark. As more boards come in from Intel and NVIDIA, we’ll see how the performance rates, but for now the P5E3 is it.
