ASUS has done a good job with the mainstream 965 chipset with the ASUS P5B-E motherboard. The board was completely stable during testing with only a problem with the onboard LAN marring a wonderful experience with the mainstream board. The 965 chipset is a good alternative to the 975X chipset, especially when you don't want dual graphics cards powering it.
The P5B-E is on Newegg for a retail price today of $120, matching other P965 boards on the market. It's 2007 and the Quad Core CPUs from Intel will likely come out in full force in the New Year. The P5B-E is ready for Quad Core or any of the Core 2 CPUs and makes for a good board. I want to take this time to wish everyone a prosperous New Years.
