ASUS 680i SLI Striker Extreme Motherboard Review

The ASUS Striker Extreme Motherboard has all of the features that you would want from a motherboard today. The nForce 680i chipset is designed for the extreme overclocker and the ability to run two graphics cards in SLI mode is always a big plus in my book. ASUS really went all out on the design of this board and it shows in the craftsmanship and performance of the board. The Features score on our chart is over 40 with extra points for the SLI adding to the score.

The new 680i chipset is the perfect choice for the consumer wanting an SLI chipset. The ability to install three PCI Express x16 graphics cards is a definite plus, as we'll see once NVIDIA really pushes their physics processing with the 8800 series. The nice thing about ASUS's layout on their board is that even if you install three PCI Express x16 dual-slot cards, like the 8800GTX, there is still room on the board for two PCI devices. ASUS has done a wonderful job with their 680i Striker Extreme motherboard, as it features all of the bells and whistles of the new chipset, the performance of the new chipset and SLI. The overclocking capability on the board is excellent, fully the equal of any board on the Intel platform today. I was able to overclock the Quad Core QX6700 to over 3 GHz on the board.
