ASUS M2R32 MVP Crossfire Motherboard Review :: BIOS and Overclocking

ASUS uses the standard American Megatrends BIOS found on many motherboards from ASUS with a few modifications. The overclocking area of the BIOS is found in the Jumper-Free section of the BIOS. Here you can set the FSB, the PCI Express frequency, the CPU frequency, the Processor, Vcore, and Northbridge voltages and more.

The range of the FSB frequency is set from 200MHz to 400Mhz in 1Mhz increments, some boards have higher FSB possible, but its unlikely that the AMD CPUs can reach above 400MHz FSB. The PCI Express frequency can be set from 100-150 MHz in 1 MHz increments. The CPU frequency is where you set the multiplier of the CPU. Here you can set the multiplier from x4 to x13 (in the case of the 5000+ CPU we use for testing). The Processor voltage can be set from 0.8 to 1.562V in 0.0125 increments. The VCore Voltage can be set from Auto, Disabled and Enabled with a maximum of 120mV increase. The NB Voltage can be set from 1.20V to 1.50V in 0.1 increments.

Overclocking the 5000+ is an interesting experience on the ASUS M2R32-MVP. I was able to overclock the FSB by itself to 300MHz, when scaling back the CPU and memory not the fastest I've seen. The system was stable throughout our testing regimen and stability tests. Using ASUS's AI NOS (Artificial Intelligence No delay Overclocking Scheme) in the BIOS, I was unable to push the CPU past 5% above the default clock, rather disappointing. Every attempt to boot with 10% or more would result in a non-boot.
