The layout of the board is generally excellent. The 4-pin power connector is on the top of the board above the CPU Socket, meaning that the power will not impede airflow in a case. The 24-pin ATX connection is directly under the DIMM slots, also the perfect positioning. The floppy drive connector is next to the 24-pin ATX connector, an excellent positioning, as many board manufacturers have tended to move it to the far left of the board, making the FDD cable loop around graphics cards. The IDE connector is next to the SATA ports.

GIGABYTE decided to cool their 965 board with a heatsink over the North Bridge and one over the South Bridge. If you want to cool the motherboard more efficiently, GIGABYTE also includes a heatsink fan that can be installed over the heatsink. During operation the board ran within normal paramaters without the added cooling. Three headers for USB 2.0 brackets are included bringing the total supported by the board to 10. The front panel I/O are all color-coded and labeled so using the connectors is easy.

A Marvell 88E8053 chip controls the onboard Gigabit LAN. This is on the PCI Express bus, giving the PCI bus a break as it has the bandwidth to handle Gigabit LAN. GIGABYTE has included their own GIGABYTE SATA2 controller on the board to control the two SATA ports above that controlled by Intel's ICH8 controller. Input and Output control is handled by an IT8718 chip. The North Bridge is Intel's new 965 chipset and the South Bridge is Intel's new ICH8 SB.
