ASUS is a computer component manufacturer based in Taiwan manufacturing motherboards, CPUs, video cards notebooks and more. They are a Tier-1 motherboard manufacturer with chipsets based upon virtually every chipset released from Intel, ATI, NVIDIA, and VIA and other companies. ASUS shipped 52 million motherboards last year, almost 1/3 of the total motherboard market.

I've used many an ASUS motherboard, including the A8N-SLI Premium motherboard in my video card test rig over the years. I've generally found their motherboards to be excellent feature-wise with lots of extras most motherboard companies don't include like wireless networking, lots of SATA ports and more. Their boards generally rank high on my list when looking to put together my personal system.

NVIDIA re-introduced the concept of multiple video card gaming in 2004 with the introduction of the nForce4 SLI platform. To date, NVIDIA has sold several million SLI motherboards, with the 2nd generation SLI x16 motherboards released last year providing dual x16 capabilities. ATI decided fairly late to go their own route with dual video cards on a motherboard. The resultant Crossfire motherboards started shipping late last year. Today I'm reviewing ASUS's Crossfire motherboard, the ASUS A8R-MVP.
