Hardware wise the ABIT AW8-Max motherboard comes with everything you need to get you started. Six SATA cables provide enough support for all drives the motherboard sport. An IDE cable and a floppy drive cable are also included. ABIT includes two power cables to provide 4 drives power. ABIT is marketing the board towards the Digital Video Editing professionals. To that end, ABIT includes 2 IEEE-1394 ports on the USB bracket, bringing the total to 3 and the total USB ports on the board to 6.

ABIT chose not to include any software like antivirus or hard drive partitioning software like many motherboards include. ABIT does include their uGuru utility which is a step above other motherboard utilities, but I kind of miss some bonus software. One thing ABIT includes that is a definite plus is the SATA RAID drivers on floppy disks to allow easy setup of RAID arrays on the board from a fresh install of Windows.

AUDIOMAX is an add-in card specific to ASUS motherboards. Due to the presence of the Silent-OTES cooling system, the board doesn't have room for the normal audio jacks on the input/output area of the AW8-Max board. The AUDIOMAX board sports a REALTEK ALC882M CODEC. This CODEC supports Intel's High Definition Audio standard, and the standard APIs: DirectSound, EAX1.0 and 2.0 and Aureal3D. The jacks present on the board include an S/PDIF Out, an S/PDIF In, and a Line In, a Mic In, a Line Out, a Center/Subwoofer, a Rear Surround and the Surround jacks for 7.1 audio.
