Epox 9NPA+ Ultra Motherboard Review :: Setup and BIOS

Setup of the board went without incident and is pretty straightforward. One nice thing about EPoX motherboards is their comprehensive manuals. The 9NPA+ Ultra is no exception to this rule. One thing I am annoyed about sometimes with AMD CPUs is their tendency to come off with the heat sink when changing out CPUs.

The BIOS of the 9NPA+ Ultra is the standard Award BIOS used by many motherboards today. EPoX has a nice touch in having the Temperature, Voltage and fan speed-readings on the POST screen. Most motherboard manufacturers require you to enter the BIOS Setup to get these readings. When coupled with the LED display, most users will have a hassle-free experience with this board, and when there is a problem, the board will indicate the likely area of the problem.

Overclocking options on the board are very robust. The Power BIOS allows you to change your FSB speeds from 200MHz to 400MHz in 1MHz increments. The PCI Express Clock can be set from 100MHz to 145MHz. EPoX provides several memory clock speed increments of 100MHz, 133MHz, 166MHz, and 200MHz. Unfortunately, this means you can't overclock the system memory. Options are also present in the BIOS to change the voltage of DIMMs, Chipset and CPU. I was able to over clock the board 15% without any problem and it was completely stable at that speed.
