Foxconn WinFast 755FXK8AA-8EKRS Review :: Setup and Bundle
Although the motherboard installed without a problem, I did encounter one huge compatibility issue. I'm not too sure whether it's the motherboard itself or the SiS chipset, but my BFG 6800 OC displayed huge artifacts during gameplay. I tried 3 different Nvidia drivers and 2 different SiS GART drivers and nothing helped. It'll run fine for 5 minutes and then artifacts will start appearing. The strange thing is that it wouldn't show in 3D-based benchmarks but only in real games. The problem wasn't my video card and that's for sure. I made sure it ran fine in my Socket 478 system. I took out the 6800 OC and installed an older Radeon 9500 and the problem went away. Perhaps the motherboard is graphic card picky? The included driver CD included all the drivers required for motherboard installation. One reason I don't like SiS chipsets is because their software support is lackluster. Instead of one installation file, there were multiple installation files just for IDE and AGP. The driver CD also provides a Windows based utility called SuperUtility. This utility allows users to monitor temperature, fan speeds, voltages, update BIOS, and even do some overclocking. The SuperUpdate utility is great because it checks for the latest motherboard version. I visited Foxconn's official website in search of a new BIOS and found nothing. The SuperUpdate actually found a newer BIOS and installed it easily. The only problem I had was that even with the BIOS protection feature disabled in BIOS, SuperUpdate didn't allow flashing to a new BIOS. I checked over the manual and found out why. There is a jumper located on the motherboard that also provides BIOS protection and it needs to be disabled as well. This is both good and bad in that it provides twice the protection, but users who are unfamiliar with hardware will have a hard time figuring out the problem. The onboard Realtek ALC850 provides an easy to use GUI but may be lacking for audiophiles. It's very straightforward. The bundle of the WinFast motherboard is rather light. There are no special accessories but the usual cables and manuals. The manual itself is pretty detailed and informative but it's not very pictorial. You'll have to actually read through it.
