ASUS P5AD2-E Motherboard Review

Okay this is like probably my (God only knows how many) thousandth motherboard setup so just getting it up and going in the test bed was essentially and almost completely a no-brainer for me. For the first time user a board really cannot get any easier to get going with as the system will automatically detect and set the parameters for most IDE only based systems. This is a very good thing for the first time system builder as it narrows down the parameters that need to be set in order for the board to post properly. Setting up a SATA based system is a little more difficult for the user as it requires you have the drivers ready on either a pre-made BOOT CD or on a floppy disc and that you setup the correct parameters in the BIOS. The 12v connector is located at the rear of the board next to Asus's capacitor cooler and the standard power connection is located by the memory.

Asus includes a very good software bundle including a good DVD player suite along with all the necessary cables and driver CD to make setup easier. Windows and all the needed drivers installed without error, as did Windows SP2. If you are planning on using the included Wireless Network function make sure to check and double check your security options before leaving your system vulnerable to outside influence. You can also monitor and ensure your system is running optimally by using the Asus tool PC Probe. The PC Probe tool allows you to check how cool or hot your system is as well as if your fans are all working within the correct parameters. This tool helped me take notice when my CPU fan failed and gave me a warning beep prior to my CPU getting burned up. This could save a user a lot of money wasted on replacing burnt up system parts due to excessive heat. I feel anyone who take the time to read the manual and jus pay attention to detail can handle the task of installing and using the P5AD2-E.
