Setup/Stability

Motherboard: MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R Review

Clearly marked wire connections and color coded IDE/SATA controllers make hookups of your various internal cables an easy task and help make the time frame involved to get up and going take a legitimate cut. The Pins on these new Athlon 64 CPU's are very fragile and easy to bend so be very careful when putting installing the chip into the ZIF Socket or you may be sorry as they are fragile and hard to fix. Be sure to pay attention when applying the fan/heatsink and make sure it is mounted properly. The proper installation consists of the cooling devise being flush with CPU with a thin layer of thermal grease between the two. This is done to seal the contact and ensure a proper seal enabling the greatest heat dissipation.

Motherboard: MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R Review

The drivers for the SATA were a bit tricky to get right as the one available on the MSI USA website were corrupt, but we eventually got it after a bit of wasted time and file swapping. This board was used for a variety of review tests so it is very compatible with many different parts and configurations. Their were no stability problems to speak of once the board was up and going and it was fast in all the test and real world evaluations so I have to say it is a very stable board. It comes in just under the SOYO Dragon Plus as far as overall performance goes making it the second fastest board for the AMD Athlon 64 platform so it's no slow poke by any means.
