The top manufacturers of motherboard chipsets have been Intel and VIA for a long time now. Sometimes AMD releases a new chipset just to promote or supply a test bed for a new type of CPU. SIS is out there with its graphics integrated solutions and it is getting better and better with its every new release. Nvidia got into the chipset business last year and have succeeded with their graphics embedded nForce chipset. Now the second generation of nVidia chipset is on the market. There are graphics embedded and standard flavors of the nForce 2 chipset.
We have been hearing about an ATI chipset for two years. We saw the first sample motherboard last year. Other than some notebook systems, the new ATI IGP 320 is making its first appearance on FIC AT31 motherboard. Is it any good? Is it robust and fast? Is it supplying enough bandwidth for AMD to rock? We will see.
