Motherboard: Intel D845EBT Review :: Setup and Overclocking
Everything is auto-detected on the D845EBT so setup is anything but hard to accomplish. The system is controlled via the AMI BIOS and offers the user mainly on/off options for the various on-board features. All I did was install my system parts hook up the power and system cables and hit the start button. It was seriously that easy to get going even with multiple CPU switches the board maintained its BIOS integrity. Overclocking on an Intel board? Mad say you am I? No really this motherboard is overclockable, not officially of course but there are programs available on the net that allow overclocking features to become available for this board, which to my knowledge is another first on an Intel motherboard that should prove quite interesting in certain quarters. The entire process lasted less than fifteen minutes and can easily be done by both the well-seasoned and very green PC enthusiast who needs a user friendly easy to navigate motherboard to build their system on. Windows went in smoothly as did all the system drivers with the exception of the LAN driver, which I had to first disable, then re-enable in the BIOS to get it to function properly. In all fairness it could have been a driver issue that was the culprit in that little hurdle as the second try was the charm.
Like almost all boards to my dismay there is still a problem with the AGP blocking the memory slots making memory changes impossible without first removing the inline AGP card. The wiring schematic is clearly marked (Silk Screened) on the board making for a simpler user interface when the manual is not handy. Overall this is a gravy train task and there is only one jumper you may ever need to use and that is used for resetting the BIOS, which on this board should never be needed anyways.
