Motherboard: MSI 645-Ultra Review :: Conclusion
For something to be named the Ultra anything usually means that it has many extra features, but the MSI 645-Ultra leaves one wondering where exactly is the beef? Although the board is not a bad performer it leaves a bit to be desired. This is about the most featureless product I have seen yet from MSI and I believe they intended it this way to make it a very low cost product for the consumer market. It has succeeded in that department as ECS has the lowest cost SiS chipset board with the MSI creeping close behind them at a few dollars more. Stability was never in question as the board was rock solid and ran fine throughout our tests. The overclocking options are very limited making it a little too light to be an enthusiasts choice but for someone who wants to just set it up and leave it alone it should do just fine. Would I run out and purchase this board? No I would not as it is too plain for my tastes. This is a budget motherboard that should do well in the OEM channels and those looking at a low cost basic solution as the beginning of their system. The Ultra is definitely missing from the MSI 645-Ultra, as it is very mundane. Doc out
