MSI has made many award-winning products that have kept them on the heels of Asus for many a year now and they are coming up strong in many areas of the PC market including video cards and microcomputers for the office environment. Sometimes even the good have a bad day and in the performance tests this board came in dead last which was a total shocker to myself as I was figuring it to be a better performer but this motherboard is just slower than the other boards in this shootout even though actually the differences are not very negligible.
The 845-Ultra has many options for the end user and is the second most feature rich motherboard in the shootout. Features include USB 2.0, ATA133 RAID, and many BIOS features for the overclocker who wants to tinker and get the most that they can from their system. The only real difference between this board and the Gigabyte board is the onboard LAN adapter that is not present on the 845-Ultra that would have been nice to have, and the addition of a Southbridge ATA133 controller that the Gigabyte doesn't have.
One of the really great features of the 845-Ultra is the on-board C-media CMI8738 audio chipset that supports 5.1 speaker support and sounds great without using up too much CPU memory. This is a added feature which is good for gaming as it does not make the game lag or stutter using high audio settings during game play. This motherboard is also jumper less in design and all changes can be made within the Award BIOS, which can be automatically updated via their Live BIOS technology through your internet connection and is actually much safer than Flashing your BIOS from a floppy. Stable, easy to use, but not too fast is what we have here folks but it does have a variety of nice features overall so its does have some glitz appeal.
