The iPhone 4 is the biggest jump in hardware and software for the iPhone platform since the arrival of the first iPhone. The Retina Display is simply incredible with a 326 pixels per inch density that can't be matched at this point in time from any of the other cellular phones on the market. As it is an exact doubling of resolution on both the horizontal and vertical of the resolution makes porting games an easy task. The iPhone 4 has issues including the Antenna and proximity sensor, however, the fact that it has sold well over 3 million units is testament to Apple's marketing and the reviews of the iPhone. There are three situations for those looking for a new phone without a contract the iPhone 4 is a good choice as you get all of the features of an iPod Touch, a 960x640 screen resolution on the screen and a near-full Internet experience (minus Adobe Flash). Keep in mind that as a new customer you will not have access to the unlimited data plan, but have a choice of either 200MB of data for $15 or 2GB of data for $25. If you have an original iPhone or iPhone 3G, the 4 is a no-brainer as you would be able to keep your unlimited data plan, and use the apps that you purchased on your older iPhone and updated or new apps that take advantage of the Retina Display. If you have an iPhone 3GS, the cost for the new phone will be $699. In that instance it is simply a matter of whether you want to spend more than 700 dollars on a new phone when another version will be coming out within a year when you would be eligible for the discount pricing. A great alternative to the iPhone 4 is the various Android handsets, which I hope to be able to review in the future. The iPhone 4 also supports everything you get in iOS 4.0 including multi-tasking and folders.
