Video cards are known for their upgrade cycles of every year or two a new generation video card is released followed by a refresh cycle based upon that first release then a new generation bringing new features to the mix. Last year in September, ATI launched the new Redwood family of video cards consisting of the HD 5870 and HD 5850 video cards for the enthusiast and performance segments.
The first cards based upon the HD 5870 and HD 5850 chips were all reference designs, meaning that the cards differed only in the packaging from the design that AMD started with. Today, various video card manufacturers are releasing newer versions of the HD 5850 with their own card designs. ASUS is a motherboard maker based in Taiwan that also manufactures video cards, laptops and various other computer related equipment. Today’s review is on the ASUS EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5 video card based upon their custom cooler.
