Solid State Drives have become the drive of choice for the majority of computer enthusiasts as prices have started to come down on the base drives. One issue is the general cost of ownership of a SSD drive for the same amount of storage space. A 512GB SSD drive can run you upwards of $1000 and lesser space drives such as a 128GB or 256GB drive are more expensive by 2 or three times than the 600GB Velociraptor. For pure storage, the 1TB HDDs are under $100, an area where the SSD drive cannot be competitive price-wise. Performance of SSD drives is much higher sustained than a traditional HDD.
The idea of a boost card to combine the benefits of both a SSD drive and a HDD is innovative. It’s pretty clear that there exists a gap in the market for the performance of an SSD drive and the storage space of a HDD. Silverstone is best known for making cases and cooling systems for computers. Their line of cases has impressed in the past. Today, I’m looking at something completely different for the PC, an enclosure that combines the HDD with an SSD drive, giving the performance of an SSD drive along with the storage space of a HDD. It should be an interesting look at the current state of drives.
