ATI launched their Redwood family of DirectX 11 cards in September of last year to no immediate answer from the folks at NVIDIA. In fact, they launched their top to bottom family of video cards before NVIDIA released a single card. NVIDIA designed a big architecture change with their Fermi architecture with over 3 Billion transistors on a 40nm process.
NVIDIA launched their Fermi architecture late last year with the expectation that it would launch in the spring of 2010. Their first part was the GeForce GTX480 which was meant to compete against the HD 5870 video card from AMD. The GeForce GTX 470 in cost and performance, meant to compete against the HD 5850. This card is the GeForce GTX 470. The GeForce GTX 470 is retailing online for $349.99, making it nearly halfway in price between the lowest priced HD 5870 and HD5850. It should be an interesting look at NVIDIA’s second fastest card.
