A-DATA ships the S596 drive in a white box with a bird on the left hand side of the box and the name of the drive and features on the right hand side of the box. Opening the box we find that A-DATA has included the drive and a Y-cable USB with 2 USB connections to mini-USB adapter. This allows the purchaser to immediately install the drive externally. If you want to install it using the SATA interface you need to have a SATAII Data and Power cable which most modern computers have.

The unit itself is the standard size for a 2.5 SSD drive designed to fit into any 2.5 drive bay. The unit is a black color. The top of the unit has the information sticker giving the name of the drive the available connections the drive uses and the FCC certifications. The sides of the drive have the screw holes to install it inside an internal drive bay. The bottom of the drive has four more holes.

The back of the drive is the interesting part of the drive. Most SSD drives have a single interface to connect to the computer either SATAII or USB. The A-DATA drive, on the other hand has the SATA Power and Data 7+15 pin connectors and a mini-USB port. You can either use the included Y-cable to Mini-USB adapter or another mini-USB to USB cable such as that used with cell phones.
