Starting off with the hardware installation, I removed the case from the shipping materials and unscrewed the four thumb screws on the back of the case pulled down the back cover and pulled off the upper cover from the DS410J. Synology put the motherboard on the bottom of the case. On the top are the four hard disk trays.

Each of the Hard disk trays has a tab that you can pull on to remove it from the cage. Once you have removed the HDD tray you have to determine which HDD you use and place it inside the tray. Secure the HDD into place with screws in the included holes and you are good to go. The circuitry for the SATA Data and Power is located at the back of the HDD tray meaning you have no use for SATA cables.

Each tray can hold either a 3.5″ HDD or a 2.5″ SSD drive. The front of the tray with the tab is where the front of the HDD should be inserted. To secure the HDD into place simply screw in four screws for the 3.5″ drives. The trays each have four holes for installing a SSD drive into the tray. The 2.5″ drives are installed by screwing in four screws at the holes on the bottom of the drive. Push the HDD tray back into place and reseat the upper case lid, screw the thumb screws in place after replacing the back cover and your system is complete.
