ATI announced their new architecture the Evergreen family of video cards in September of last year aboard the U.S.S. Hornet, a World War II-era aircraft carrier. The Evergreen family consists of many variants including the Cypress (5870, 5850), the Juniper (5770, 5750), the Hemlock (5970), the Redwood (5670) and the Cedar (55 series and 5450). Today marks the release of the Redwood version of their new architecture, the Radeon HD 5670.
XFX is a manufacturer of video cards based upon both NVIDIA and ATI chip. For the last year or so XFX has used ATI chips on their cards which is a wise choice as NVIDIA based cards are not competitive at the moment feature or performance wise. They have already released cards based upon every member of the Evergreen family and today’s review is on the Redwood card, the RADEON HD 5670. This is the reference clocked version, with XFX normally releasing variants with higher clock speeds later.
