ATI has basically ruled the performance and features roost of graphics cards since the release of the Radeon HD 5870 last September. One issue with their launch has been availability as most of the cards on the market have been sold out within a few days. ATIís issue is one of low production of 40nm parts by TSMC but they are now widely available on Newegg and other online retailers. If you want a video card that supports DirectX 11 and the performance to boot, the HD 5xxx series is the only solution available today.
XFX has been selling both ATI and NVIDIA based video cards for the last year or so. With the delays that NVIDIA has experienced with their Fermi architecture, most of the cards on the market from XFX these days are ATI cards. They generally release versions of their cards in the standard reference design and clocks, a XT edition, a XXX Edition and a Black Edition with the various cards being clocked higher in that order. Today Iím reviewing the XFX Radeon HD 5870 XXX Edition card which is their second fastest card of their 5870 series.
