Our test platform for Hard Disks and SSDs has by necessity changed to reflect the times. I decided to use our Video Card test platform. The tests we use include the AS SSD test and Copy test that take forever to complete on a regular HDD and therefore not tested on a regular HDD, ATTO, CrystalDiskMark, PCMark Vantages HDD test, Sisoft Sandras Disk benchmark, HD Tach Read performance under Windows XP SP2 Compatibility mode and HD Tune.
In terms of performance the Crucial SSD drive is faster than the Samsung drive in several areas and slower in other areas. But looking at the actual benchmarks we used it is clear that the Crucial drive has less dips in performance across the entirety of the tests compared to the Samsung drive. Sustained performance across a longer period of time with minimal dips is more important than faster burst speed especially on a SSD drive.
