XFXs card is the same as the reference design in most respects. The card is 12 inches long with a shroud on the front of the card. The XFX logo is on the front of the card with the name of the card; XFX RADEON HD 5970 Black Edition below it. There is a 47-fin fan on the far right portion of the front of the card. This is exactly the same design as found on the reference HD 5970.

The rear of the card has two holes for efficient air flow. The fan draws air in throw the holes blowing the air across the graphic chips and out the front grill. The top of the card has a single bridge for installing two of these cards in a single system offering Quad-CrossfireX mode with four GPUs installed. The top of the card is also where the 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors are located. Note that ATI indicates that a maximum of 294 Watts are necessary for this card.

The back of the card has the Part Number and Serial Number stickers as well as the mounting screws for the two GPUs on the card. One thing to note about the HD 5970 is there are two mounting areas for the GPUs, accounting for the increased length of the card compared to the HD 5870. The I/O on the card consists of two DVI-I outputs and a DisplayPort output. To use three monitors the DisplayPort output must be used as a requirement of Eyefinity.
