ATI’s launch of the HD5870 and HD5850 as well as their HD5770 and HD5750 cards has overshadowed NVIDIA’s current lineup in so many ways that NVIDIA will find a hard time competing in the high-end of the video card market until the consumer version of Fermi is released. Assuming the card actually outperforms the ATI cards and is released this year, NVIDIA will not suffer too much for being later than their competition except of course for those wanting to upgrade.
The vast majority of video card sales are not in the $200+ price range as many people are just trying to upgrade their horrible Intel integrated graphics to play games. There is a market for $59 and $69 video cards like the 9400GS and 9500GT. NVIDIA had two targets with the replacement for those two cards, introduce DirectX 10.1 features with the new cards and move to the 40nm fabrication process. With the launch of the GeForce GT220 and GT210, NVIDIA is not meaning to take the high-end by storm. These products have already hit on the mobile space in notebooks. Today’s review is on the Gigabyte GT220 and GT210 cards.
