Crysis Warhead is the latest game from Electronic Arts’ Crytek division that brought us the game we know so well as the killer of video card performance. The HD 5850 from Sapphire played this game with great ease with playable frame rates at 1920x1200 resolution in most areas. Some areas of heavy fighting caused the frame rate to suffer but if you want the best experience playing the game short of shelling out $379 for a HD 5870 this is it.
Resident Evil has always been one of my favorite game series since it was released in the 1990s by Capcom. The latest installment is a good showcase for the performance of the HD 5850 as in most cases the game has higher frame rate than other cards. The game had frame rates in excess of 80 fps at 1920x1200 4x AA 16x AF on the Sapphire HD 5850 making it one of the best experiences available assuming you don’t have 3D glasses.
The first game to support DirectX 11 is Battle Forge which is also one of the first games to support DirectX 10.1 on ATI cards. While the effect on the game is minimal (support for High Definition Screen Occlusion, Shader Model 5 and Compute Shader did not improve visuals), it is nice to see a game on release of a new card to support the new features. BattleForge had high frame rate in the 40s even in DX11 4X AA, 1920X1200 resolution.
