Over the last few years every graphics card review on the planet it seems has used Crysis to measure DirectX 10.0 performance. There’s several reasons for this including the fact that Crysis is still one of the more graphically demanding games. Crysis plays well at 1680x1050 resolution with maximum settings and 4x FSAA 16x AF. At that resolution and setting, the game has frame rates exceeding 40 fps throughout and approaching 50 fps in some places. Resident Evil is one of my favorite game series of all time with the first one being one of the first games to scare the pants off me with the flesh eating zombies and creatures. Resident Evil 5 was released last week by Capcom with support for DirectX 9.0c and 10.0 with NVIDIA’s Stereo 3D supported. The changes to the game for DirectX 10 are cosmetic with Stereo 3D the main change. The game ran flawlessly on the HD 5870 card with performance in the 100+ fps range even at 1920x1200 8x MSAA. Darkest of Days is another recent game released by Phantom EFX and 8MonkeyLabs. This game has your character as Alexander Morris, a US Cavalry soldier fighting in the Little Big Horn. Your character gets thrown into the future by a temporal agent. Your mission is to try and save the future by saving the past. You visit many time periods including the First World War and the American Civil War. Darkest of Days is another DirectX 9.0 game with support for PhysX. This game ran great on the HD 5870 with high performance in the 70s even at 1920x1200 resolutions.
