If you want a modern video card that runs DirectX 10 games there really isn't another choice than the HD 4650 on the market right now. NVIDIA has abandoned the AGP market, with the last AGP video card the 7900GT, which is a DirectX 9.0 product and not competitive with the HD 4650 in any respect. The GeForce 6800GT was not playable at 1280x1024 on DirectX 9.0 games but on the other hand this was one of the first DX 9.0 supporting cards, so that is to be expected.

From that perspective, the GIGABYTE GV-R465D2-1GI video card is the best available AGP solution on the market as it has support for DirectX 10.1 features, performance that outshines the competition on the AGP front in every DirectX 9.0 game, and games will likely be CPU limited with the Intel 478 CPUs or AMD Athlon 64 boards that most people upgrading to a new video card would have anyway as the video card will be very powerful compared to the other AGP cards available. The card is available online for $94.99 from Newegg making for a little more expense than the PCI Express version of the same card, but for all intents and purposes this card is alone in the market and that is a small price to pay for what you get. The system we put together for testing this card will likely not be a factor as the components are not typical of an AGP system.
