The front of the card has a card-length cooler. The TOXIC and Vapor-X logos are on the right hand side of the cooler with the Fueled by Sapphire and ATI Radeon HD 4870 logos on the left hand side of the cooler. The cooling system is a two slot solution. There is a 7-fin fan in the near-center of the card. This fan runs very slow at default speeds with 7-10% fan speeds in most situations.

The Vapor-X plate covers the graphics chip behind the large cooler. Leading out from the plate are three heatpipe which lead out to a large finned heatsink inside the cooler cover along with the 7-fin fan. Sapphire's uses copper fins on the heatsink and pipes. This is an effective cooling system as the fan only spins at about 600RPM when idle, while keeping temperatures below that of the standard HD 4870.

The rear of the card has two 6-pin power connectors that are facing towards the rear of the case instead of on top of the card. The Radeon HD 4870 chip consumes a total of 225W maximum, which is more than the 75W the PCI Express slot can deliver and more than a single Molex connector can deliver. The top of the card has two bridges for Crossfire support of up to four ATI HD 4870 cards working together.
