The AM3 CPU is installed exactly the same as an AM2+ CPU. Install the motherboard on the case, align the CPU with the notches lower the CPU into the Socket, close the lever and install the CPU cooler. Note that there is only one way to install the CPU and if you have to force the CPU into the Socket it means you are installing it the wrong way. Forcing the CPU in the Socket in the wrong way will break the CPU.

In terms of gaming performance on the AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU, the extra speed shows off higher performance in games with a good video card like the HD 4890 or GeForce GTX 285. Games like Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. played extremely well with the AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU. Everyday tasks such as running Excel spreadsheets seemed noticeably faster when several were open on the 955 compared to a 710 Triple core CPU.

This particular CPU is a great overclocker for those having the guts and glory to overclock. AMD has released AMD Overdrive 3.0.2 to automatically overclock the CPU. The main screen gives information on the CPU including the Name, Instructions, Family, Package, HT Reference clock, Core speed, NB Speed and more information.

The memory information given by AOD includes the capacity, the Type, the Maximum bandwidth, the manufacturer, the part number, the serial number and the date. AOD gives the end user full control over the clock speed, the memory the timings and the profiles for applications. Using the AOD 3.0.2 software from AMD’s webpage allowed me to overclock the 3.2GHz CPU to 3.72GHz.
