Keeping in mind the fact that the GeForce 9600GT was released over 2 years ago and the card has been replaced in the pricing category and performance many times over it should be interesting to see how it fares. The games I tried were Call Of Duty Modern Warfare, Crysis, Far Cry 2, and HAWX, as well as BattleStations Pacific.
Call of Duty 4 was totally playable on the GIGABYTE card. By totally playable I mean 1600x1200 32-bit high settings with 4x AA and 16x AF. The game played well with smooth frame rates through heavy fire fights and lots of action. The game is a DirectX 9.0c game meaning that liberal use of Pixel Shader 3.0 effects make for an excellent looking game.
Crysis was mostly playable at 1024x768 with high settings. As the game takes a toll on every video card on the market including the latest 4870 x2s, playable means over 30 fps at those settings. For the casual gamer this card is aimed at this is sufficient. Far Cry 2 was playable up to and including 1280x1024 with this card. This game is far less graphically demanding than Crysis.
