The GK-K6800 from Gigabyte is a nice simple introduction into the keyboard and peripheral market. The keyboard is relatively light for a multimedia keyboard compared with others on the market in the same price range. The GK-K6800 is slim in structure as well and the user will feel comfortable with using the unit on your lap. The USB cable is of average length for a keyboard and depending on the layout of a workstation it may be a little short. I prefer a longer cable then what this unit has but then again i sit over six feet from my computer when in use. The USB connector itself is very solid and can even endure an "accidentally stepped on" event. The keys have a very quick response time when the keys are depressed. This makes typing long documents or text very comfortable. Simply brushing a key on the board can sometimes yield a keystroke. Being a multimedia keyboard, the keyboard is not necessarily designed for the gamer. This being said, it still handles fairly well. I never experienced any WASD ghosting issues while playing any games and the only real issue I had is I seemed to hit the Windows Start key a little too easily. The overall key layout is pretty good. But if you are a user with larger hands then you may have issue with how close the keys feel to be. For me, there was a definite difference due to the size of my hands. It did take me a little time to become comfortable with the keys as the keyboard has a smaller width then I am used to. The keyboards key placement kind of felt like they were set to far to the left on the board by my standard. But by the end of the week, I was very comfortable with the feel of keys and there locations. Of course the keyboard comes with many multimedia functions. Pause/Play, Stop, Rewind, and Fast Forward are larger keys along the top of the keyboard. There finish is slightly different then main keyboard functions with a glossy look and a smoother feel. The volume control is located on the upper right side of the board. Volume is controlled by a very smooth moving control knob that does not sit above the board as most do, but sits almost flush with the surface. The feel of this button is almost like making a circle on the table with your fingers. It takes very little effort to move the button yet it will not spin like other keyboards I have used. The feel of button is very unique for me and I love the way they have implemented this feature. On the right side of the board there are 5 quick keys. From top to bottom; mute, access to your music or vide player button, My computer or explorer button, an email program button and a quick key for the calculator. My favorite would have to be the explorer key as it opens up a new window each time the key is pressed. All these seem to apply to your default programs. For example, if you use Media player as your default player, then when the button is pressed then Media player opens. But if the user likes Winamp and has set this as the default player, this key will then open Winamp. On the left side of the board are internet browser quick keys. These include the Home, Favorites, Reload, Forward and Back buttons. Again these all appear to open based on the default browser like the quick keys on the other side of the board. All the media keys never seem to get in the way and are comfortable to use as well as conveniently located.
