Every 6 to 12 months, video card companies like NVIDIA and ATI release new video cards with new performance or new features that replace the previous video card. Last year ATI released the HD 4870 1GB video cards in May making it nearly 9 months since the launch of the previous card. Today they have released an updated version of the HD 4870, the HD 4890.
XFX is a division of Pine Technologies which is based in Hong Kong. Over the years XFX has built many NVIDIA based cards. Last year they announced their first ATI based cards, based on ATI's current lineup for video cards including the HD 4870, HD 4870 X2 and many others. Today they are releasing their HD 4890 card based upon ATI's latest chip, the RV790.
