AMD Phenom II X4 940 Review :: Test Setup and Software

Due to the advent of the new CPU I decided to standardize our motherboard test platform. After all, having an 8800GTS 320MB as the video card on a modern quad core CPU is not very indicative of the high-end or even mainstream gaming system today. To that end the video card in the test system is an ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB which is typical of video cards in today's high-end gaming systems.

The tests have also been updated to reflect the latest versions of the benchmarks we normally use for our motherboard test suite. Bapco has released Sysmark 2007 Preview Patch 5 that was released recently. Sisoft Sandra has been updated to a 2009 version which we use in the benchmark suite. 3dMark Vantage is updated to the latest patch, as well as 3DMark06. The x264 benchmark is meant to show encoding performance of HD video.
