XFX 9800GTX Plus Black Edition Review

The high-end GeForce 9800GTX video card was originally announced a back in early April of 2008 and was thought to be almost EOL. It seems like a long time ago now, as the GeForce GTX 280 and HD 4870 cards from NVIDIA and ATI were later released and then redefined what was the high-end of the video card market and relegated the GeForce 9800GTX to a more mainstream role in the NVIDIA lineup and made it a lower end product.

ATI's release of the HD 4850 forced NVIDIA to launch an overclocked version of the 9800GTX called the 9800GTX+ to compete at the same price point. XFX is a one of the solid NVIDIA partner with their entire lineup consisting of NVIDIA based video cards as their sole claim to fame. They have released the GeForce 9800GTX+ Black Edition to fight the $200 video card market that is currently being dominated by the HD 4850 card. We recently reviewed the XXX version of this card, but the new Black (Overclocked) Edition should add a little boost in performance over its lower clocked counterpart and improve performance by some small margin.
