Intel Core i7 965EE, i7 940, i7 920 Review :: Introduction

Intel rarely has to play the catch up game when it comes to leaps and advancements in technology and this trend is still evident by way of Intel's latest set of release candidates for the PC industry that are changing the game in terms of performance and features. The only time in recent history where Intel took a back seat to AMD was the release of the AMD Athlon 64 CPUs where AMD CPUs had the performance and feature advantage for a short time.

Today Intel is launching a new CPU architecture and chipset that looks to redefine what performance on the Intel platform is all about. This also marks the first time NVIDIA SLI has been supported on an Intel motherboard platform natively without an NVIDIA chip, as was the case with the Skulltrail platform of earlier this year. It should be interesting to see how the new CPUs and architecture fare. Intel has moved on to the LGA-1366 interface, replacing the LGA-775 that was released in 2004. This necessitates a new motherboard chipset, which takes the form of the X58 Express chipset also launching today.
