AMD Spider Platform 9950 Black CPU Review :: Spider Platform System Build
One of the things we do with computer parts is build systems. Lian-Li recently sent an Armor P80R case for review that has the Spider platform logo on it. As AMD is promoting the Spider platform as one of their gaming platform selling points, we decided to put together a system with high-end parts around the AMD Spider platform. Here’s a list of the components in the system:
The Lian Li case started life as a custom job for AMD that was so popular Lian Li decided to bring it to production status. Some of the key features of the case include an all-aluminum construction. Aluminum is a lighter metal than ordinary SECC Steel that is found on most cases. The second important feature is 10 PCI Express holes on the IO. This allows the use of motherboards like the K9 790FX MSI board from AMD and the use of four video card slots to be used in CrossfireX mode. Installation of the motherboard is made easy with a removable motherboard tray. The motherboard and other computer components can be mounted before working with the wires and it is easier to use. The HDD rack is easy to work with as well, as it can be removed then inserted back into the case. Mounting a SilenX CPU cooler to the 9950 was a non-issue as there was plenty of room in the motherboard area to work with it. Overall, Thrasher2, the resident system builder for the site had no issues and found the case and components easy to install. The completed Lian-Li case lights up with a yellow light that looks really cool as you can see from the pictures. The completed system is a mix of the highest-end AMD components on the market today including a 9950 CPU, the 790FX chipset motherboard, two of the new HD4870s (we only have a single HD 4870 X2 card at the moment), and 2GB of DDR2 PC8500 memory.
