The Black Pearl is made of Durable high end black aluminum with acrylic front display showing the systems different temperatures and also functions as a control panel with adjustable fan speeds. Up to 8 air-cooled hidden hard disks can fit inside the Black Pearl with enough space in between them for proper air-flow to keep them running cool. Most people will only use a few hard drives and you can then give them more than ample space between them to run cool.

There are 14 total drive bays available to the user, 7 5.25” External drive bays and 7 3.5” Internal drive bays. There are 6 5.25 Drive bays on the front of the case, with the additional 7th being taken up by a 3.5” adapter for the floppy disk drive. There is space on two hard disk racks for 8 drives internally. There are eight rubber “boots” to offer vibrationless hard drive operation. One or both of the HDD cages can be removed to allow the installation of a long PSU if so needed.

The left hand door on the case is a mesh door made out of aluminum. The use of a mesh allows the case user to view the insides of the case without a window which can scratch. I prefer the use of a mesh door as you still have a view of the insides but it offers better airflow and protection for the components inside. This feature of mesh being used in the cases design is actually a winner in two ways as it’s cosmetically appealing and allows the system to be additionally cooled by the ambient air in the room it’s located in.

There are a total of four fan areas for cooling off the interior of the Black Pearl. The rear area below the motherboard area has a 120mm fan. The area next to the hard drive racks has another 120mm fan. The top of the case has two 120mm fan areas. Four 120mm fans are supported by the fan controller, meaning that if you attach all four fans you will get a digital readout on the front of the case. The I/O on the case is located on the top of the case, the perfect place for the I/O connections to be. There are a total of 2x USB 2.0, 2x audio and 1 Firewire port on the top. The only missing ingredient would be an external SATA port as that is becoming increasingly common on high-end cases. The front of the case has a fan controller with fan speeds and temperature readings right under the FDD enclosure. This case has plenty of room for almost any level of expansion, be it SLI, CorssFire, or a system utilizing many different drives, this is a case that can definitely grow with you as you need it to.
