Hiper Anubis Case Review :: System Build

I decided to build a rather nice gaming system with this case. The components for the system included: the nForce 750i SLI FTW Edition motherboard from EVGA, the 8800GT 1GB AKIMBO video card from EVGA, a E8400 CPU from Intel, 2GB of Corsair DDR2 1066MHz DDR2 memory, two 74GB WD Raptor HDDs in RAID mode and a DVD-RW drive from LG.

Opening the case sides are easier than almost any other case I've worked with. Most cases come with thumb screws on the rear of the side that has to be removed to work on. The Anubis has latches which you pull down on to remove the side panels. This can save time on system installation rather than having to remove thumbscrews.

Installation of the motherboard was a snap as the motherboard mounts on the indicated holes. I mounted the motherboard mounting screws in the holes, removed the back plate and mounted the EVGA 750i SLI FTW motherboard. I had pre-installed the memory and the CPU so I wouldn't have to deal with them after the motherboard was installed. You'll notice the clearance between the HDD cage and the 8800GT video card in the picture. This shows that long video cards can be installed in the case without it interfering with cables.

I mounted two 120mm case fans onto the case. One was installed on the removable HDD mount. The fan fit easily onto the rack and the front door effectively covers the fan when closed. There's a grill on the front where the 120mm fan goes. The rear 120mm fan mounted easily as well on the top of where the motherboard is mounted. There's plenty of clearance around the fan area from the first PCI expansion slot and the CPU area.

Overall, the system build was rather easy and painless until our technician Thrasher2 started removing the back-plates for the expansion slots. The case has some sharp edges especially after removing the expansion brackets and one can cut your hands on them. This is one of the problems with having non- re-installable back plates for the expansion slots and is common for many cases. Other than that detail the case was a joy to work with and recommended as everything is well laid out.
