ECS 8800GT N8800GT-256MX Review :: ECS N8800GT-256MX 256MB Bundle
I like to see game bundles with new cards as it provides added value to the card that a new user can see right away. ECS chose to include a minimalist bundle which is typical of cards in this price bracket (169.99). The rest of the bundle includes the Driver CD, a DVI to D-Sub adapter, a Power cable for those not having a 6-pin power connector on their PSU and a HDTV RGB cable to connect to a HDTV.
BIOS Flashing of the card is easy with NVIDIA’s NVFlash utility. The latest version of this utility is 5.6.3 and is available on websites like TechPowerUp. Flashing the video card BIOS needs to be taken with care as if the power is interrupted before the flashing is done the card may be unusable by the end-user. To flash the card, simply make a DOS startup disk in Windows, copy the NVFlash files, and the BIOS files for the card and reboot the computer.
Make sure the BIOS of the motherboard is set to boot off the floppy first as most people have their BIOS set to boot off the HDD or DVD-ROM. Once the a:\ prompt appears, type in NVFLASH 88HY512 -4 -5 -6 and click y when the prompt appears. Note that the prompt will indicate that the video card being flashed is different than the BIOS indicates. This is normal and then you proceed with the Flash. Once the system reboots you now have a 512MB 8800GT! Contents:Discuss This Article
